Can AI replace the human mind? Let’s look at what makes creativity solely a human trait.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been making waves over the last few years and rewired the way many industries function. But how does AI-generated content stack up against the human touch when it comes to creative writing?

Consider this.

[Human writer] You are at the beach with your loved ones, looking at the waning sun in all its glory with the stark yellow gradually turning into tangerine ready to take a dip into the ocean and rest for the night.

OR

[AI writer] You are at the beach with people you know witnessing a sunset.

When I read these two sentences, the first one evokes an image and intense emotions within me. I can feel the sun setting and the love I feel for the people I love. Do you?

For me, the human touch in creative writing is a clear winner. Some differences that I would like to highlight are as follows:

● Divergence in Styles
Human writers infuse their own individual style, voice and sense of humour into their work and consider a topic’s nuances and subtleties to make it relatable for readers. AI works well when it comes to stating facts and figures in a crisp and informative manner without necessarily accounting for how audiences are engaged and entertained.

● Quantity or Quality?
The fundamental difference between AI-generated content and human writing is that the former can churn out large volumes of text within seconds, making the entire process of content creation scalable and convenient, while the latter has an element of authenticity and personal touch which is essential for connecting with readers.

● Sentiments and the Senses
When a human writes, they can tap into emotions and experiences that can bring a piece of writing to life in a way that creates an immediate connection with the audience. For instance, the writer can describe a sunset’s vivid colours and imagery in a way that evokes a sense of awe and wonder. On the other hand, AI uses mathematical patterns and data to generate text, which is great for factual descriptions of a scene, but would it invoke an emotional response from the reader? Perhaps not.

Having said this, AI-generated content can be used for technical, non-creative tasks. Especially, as AI continues to improve by leaps and bounds each year, it can make machine-driven content generation easier and more accessible. However, it fails to add the creative edge clearly tipping the scales in the favour of the human touch.

Last word. AI is easy to use and reduce human effort for non-creative writing. However, the human brain is incomparable when it comes to creative writing that functions best in an imaginative ecosystem of ideas, words and emotions.
